COVID-19 UPDATE LETTER FROM CAROLINE JEWELL

17 April 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Curnow School Update regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I hope that you are all keeping well and coping with the many challenges that we all are facing. Thank you all for your support and understanding during this difficult time.  I am writing to keep you informed about the current position in school.

As you will be aware the advice remains that wherever possible people should be staying at home - this includes school pupils.  Curnow school has remained open, including over Easter, to support key worker parent requests and to provide sessions for families who are in need of crisis support.   You will have been receiving regular contact from your child's class teacher - they will check in with you, find out if you would like more work/activities for home, and will also be a point of contact if you do feel that you need more support and help.  We are very aware that this is a difficult time for everybody, but particularly for some of our pupils who do not like a change in routine - so it is very important that you let the teacher know if you do need more support.

Home Learning

It has been lovely to see some of the photos that you have been sending in of the activities children are doing at home.   Some pupils have been very pleased to have school work to get on with at home, for some others it has been very challenging for them to do something so out of the ordinary.  Please do not feel under any pressure to try to make your child complete school work if this is making things difficult at home.  The activities are there for you to use only if they are helpful to you.

EHCPs

We will be starting to do Annual Reviews of Education Health Care Plans by phone over the next week.  If you would like a reminder of the key outcomes that are on your child's EHCP so you can work on some of them while your child is at home - let us know and we can resend them.  Wherever possible we can try to get resources/ equipment home to support pupils who have specific requirements in their EHCP - again, please let us know if there is something that you need to support you and your child at home.

Free School Meals

For those pupils who access Free School Meals you should be receiving an email/post containing voucher codes soon.  I am aware that this process has been delayed, we have fed this back and been informed that there have been some issues with the National system – Jan will keep in touch to let you know when vouchers are distributed. This is a very difficult time for many people financially - please do not hesitate to let us know if you are finding things difficult, we will then be able to look at ways to support you and signpost you to people who can help.

We do not know how long we will be in this position.  We will keep you informed as soon as we have any clarity about when schools may reopen.  In the meantime we will continue to do our best to support you and your child while they are at home.  Please do not hesitate to contact me, or any of the teachers if you have any questions or comments.

Best Wishes

Caroline Jewell
