My name is Valerie Chown and I am the Secretary here at Curnow School.
I have worked at Curnow for over 25 years and seen many changes in that time; what hasn’t changed, however, is the pride I feel every day when I witness our pupils’ progress and see how much they enjoy their time at Curnow.
My role here is varied. I work on the reception desk at Upper School from 7:40 - 9:30 am and will be the main point of contact during that time in relation to pupil attendance or any queries from parents/professionals which require the attention of the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and class teachers.
My other role is quite varied and includes running all aspects of administration relating to pupil Annual Reviews (Education, Health and Care Plans); if parents/carers have any queries in relation to these reviews I am always on hand to try and address these.
I have the responsibility to maintain the school’s SIMs management information system in regards to student data, attendance records, production of census reports and I work alongside the School Business Manager in maintaining the school’s Single Central Record to ensure the school meets all requirements in regards to safeguarding.
With the School Business Manager I have the responsibility for the day to day organisation of the school in relation to staff and shared resources, which includes school diary management. I am also the treasurer for the PTA (Curnow School Association) and very involved in fund raising and in upholding our mission statement of the strengthening of the school’s community.
I very much enjoy the day to day contact with members of the school community; I resume reception duties at 3.00 pm which provides more opportunity for contact with staff, pupils, parents, members of multi-agency teams and transport staff. I am in a very privileged position and feel blessed to work here.
