Roles and Responsibilities - Office Manager (Valerie Chown)

My name is Valerie Chown and I am the Office Manager.

The main purpose of my job is to ensure the school office supports the administrative needs of the school across both school sites.

I have many roles and responsibilities which include the induction of all staff/volunteers to the school ensuring we are fully compliant within safeguarding polices/procedures which can be identified through the rigorous upkeep of our Single Central Register.

I will always endeavour to help parents and carers with any queries relating to the school; this includes payment of lunch money/Post 16 bursaries information. If you require any help in any aspect of our school organisation please do not hesitate to give me a call or drop me an email. I will get back to you as quickly as possible; if I do not have the answer I will put you in touch with someone who can provide you with the information you will need.
I have the responsibility to record pupil’s attendance; if you child is going to be absent from school could you please telephone/email me as early as possible. The school closely monitors the attendance of all pupils and through the receipt of your phone call we will be able to record reasons on our electronic register accurately.
I also have the responsibility for the organisation of all the paperwork required for Annual/ Transition/ Transfer EHC reviews and the school diary which details when such meetings will be held.

I am a Governor of the school (non-teaching staff) and a Trustee of the Curnow School Association; my role as Treasurer is to provide finance reports to the committee members and work with external auditors to ensure we uphold the requirements of our constitution.

I have worked at the school for twenty three years; in that time I have seen many changes – what hasn’t changed however, is the pride I feel every day when I see how much our pupil’s progress and enjoy their time at Curnow!

Reception Duties
School attendance and data (with DHT provide reports to the Head Teacher/Governors each term)
SATs/EYFS profile data/P level data recording and reporting to DfE and LA
Six monthly/EHC plans/Annual/Transition Review/CIC/LAC paperwork and organisation (both school sites)
Staff cover – Teachers and Learning Assistants (both school sites)
Staff CPD register with SBM
Governor sub-committee minutes of meetings
PA to the Head Teacher – diary management
Volunteers/student/work experience co-ordinator and induction with DHT
Shared areas timetables (with site manager - mini buses)
PPA cover
Reports to Governors (as defined by SSEF)
Member of Health, Safety and Well-being sub-committee
Safer Recruitment Officer
