Class 12

Welcome to Class 12

Our Class:

Class 12 is a mixed KS3, KS4 and Post 16 class that is home to learners with social and communication difficulties.  We have a very busy and dedicated class team of highly skilled teaching assistants along with our teacher, Frankie Payne.  All of our pupils have a Sensory Passport and individualised timetable that allows for their academic, pastoral, well-being and sensory needs to be consistently accounted for.

Our Curriculum:

Our teaching is supported by a bespoke curriculum that allows for specific attention to be given to developing our pupils’ social and communication skills.  We access the core curriculum subjects using a specialist pedagogy that supports our individual needs; this is facilitated through a highly structured TEACCH approach to learning.  Additional attention autism and intensive interaction sessions allow us to further develop our social and communication skills.

There is a large focus on supporting our pupils to develop functional life skills that can be generalised across a range of contexts. Our learning is complemented by our personalised behaviour and IEP targets, these are reviewed and updated termly.  Additionally, our KS4 and Post 16 pupils access ASDAN accredited modules. Independence is a key theme: we concentrate on looking after ourselves and others, cooking and preparation, healthy living and work related learning.

Learning Environment:

Class 12 are extremely lucky to have an adapted learning environment consisting of a main classroom, large bathroom, sensory integration room, outdoor learning space and two sensory regulation rooms.  Our classroom is specially designed to allow for 1:1 learning as well as small group sessions. We have access to the school hydro pool and a newly designed gym.  The students in Class 12 all have sensory processing issues and we therefore have a range of dedicated equipment designed to meet their physical and sensory needs.
